She has been a part of shows like Grand and Davis Rules, as well as creating, producing, and starring in The Building, Bonnie, and Life with Bonnie. She was born to Robert Edward Hunt (1927-1981), an electrician, and Alice E. Hunt (née Jatczak) (1925-2021). Her father was of Irish and Belgian ancestry, and her mother has Polish roots. Her siblings include three older brothers: Patrick, Kevin, and Tom, as well as two older sisters, Cathy and Carol, and a younger sister, Mary. She was educated in Catholic schools, including Saint Ferdinand School and Notre Dame High School for Girls in Chicago, and also worked part-time as a nurse's aide. She started working as an oncology nurse in 1982 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Two years later, in 1984, she co-founded a comedy troupe known as An Impulsive Thing.
